AMD's Henri Richard to step down

Advance Micro Devices will announce the resignation of Henri Richard from his position as executive vice president and chief sales and marketing officer. Losing the performance crown to Intel's Core CPU, losing revenue and now losing the head salesman. This year is not good for AMD.
Richard's loss is a very significant development in what has been a disastrous year for AMD. Its flagship product for 2007, a quad-core server chip known as Barcelona, will arrive six months later than expected after a number of technical glitches. AMD has lost a ton of money in the interim, trying to compete against Intel's quad-core chips by slashing the prices of its dual-core chips.

If the date of Richard's departure is accurate, the company will have to pull off its biggest product launch of the year, Barcelona, without its head salesman.
